Jean-Claude Mas’s great-grandfather, Auguste Mas, bought the first family vineyard in 1892 when he acquired 9 hectares near Montagnac. In 1987, Paul Mas, son of Auguste Mas, donated 35 hectares to his son Jean-Claude, who founded Domaines Paul Mas. Jean-Claude Mas is thus a fourth-generation winegrower and a first-generation winemaker. Jean-Claude is part of a “new wave” of winemakers who are reviving the image of the Languedoc region.nnToday, Domaines Paul Mas owns 850 hectares of vineyards spread across 15 estates in the Languedoc and works with growers who cultivate a further 1250 hectares of vines, giving the estate the ability to draw on over 40 different grape varieties, both local and international, and an incredible range of complex terroirs in the Languedoc. nnThe philosophy of Les Domaines Paul Mas is “world wine in a new world world”, which means preserving the characteristics of the soil and the grape variety while creating a wine that meets the needs of the consumer: high fruit concentration with ripe, soft tannins.
