It came into being when British actress, Lillie Langtry bought the estate in 1888 and introduced vineyards. Langtry Estate has a wide range of both red and white wines, producing Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, rosé, Rhône blends and fortified wines in the manner of Port. The property covers over 23,000 acres (9,300 hectares) of land spanning Lake County and touching on northern Napa Valley. The estate’s winery was built in 1981, designed to mimic a barn on the property. The facility overlooks a reservoir which has become a haven for wildlife, in particular water birds. The estate is now owned by Foley Family Wines. It is open for public visits.
